Church History
The First Baptist Church of Reserve's roots can be traced back to a small group of people that began meeting in the home of Mike Transier in February of 1975. The group soon outgrew Mike's home and the meetings moved to the Union Hall in Reserve. Later that year, Reverend Sam Jones, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Gramercy, heard the call of God and recognized the need for a Southern Baptist Mission in the Reserve area. He presented this opportunity to the Gramercy congregation and they agreed to be the sponsoring Mother Church for the newly formed Reserve Baptist Mission.
Reverend Jones became the part-time Pastor and the congregation continued to grow. The search began for property to build a church and a piece of land was secured at the corner of West 10th Street and Railroad Avenue in Reserve. The first building was constructed in 1976 and additional classrooms were built in 1978. The church continued to grow as Reverend James K. (Tommy) Pierece became the full time Pastor.
In 1979, the Church made an application through the Mother Church at Gramercy, to the Georgia Barnett Home Mission Board to secure funds to build a new church. Upon approval, Cedric Carroll, a member of the Gramercy Church began drawing up the plans for a new two story Church that included a new santuary, offices and classrooms. The Church continued to grow and became constituted into the First Baptist Church of Reserve and continued to be a vibrant work for the Lord in the Reserve area.
Though tough economic times in the late 90's impacted the church membership as people moved away, the Church is now experiencing a Spiritual renewal under the leadership of Pastor Mike Reeves. The Church is once again impacting the community for the Lord Jesus by advancing the Kingdom of Heaven in St. John Parish. Come and join us as we follow the Lord in obedience and surrender.
